Lee Jae Myung Returns Home After 11-Day Overseas Tour
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has returned home from an 11-day overseas tour that aimed to promote bilateral cooperation in key areas. The trip included meetings with top US tech firms and summits with the presidents of Brazil, Chile, and Argentina.
The president met with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang in San Francisco to discuss artificial intelligence collaboration. He also held talks with the heads of three other leading US tech companies during his visit.
Lee's tour also included agreements to strengthen bilateral cooperation between South Korea and its South American counterparts in areas such as critical minerals, crude oil imports, and trade. The president was scheduled to receive policy briefings from government ministries upon his return, including the foreign, defence, and unification ministries.
The government has been working on revising the property tax system and addressing issues in the housing market, which led to a closed-door meeting at Cheong Wa Dae with Prime Minister Han Seong-sook, Finance Minister Koo Yun-cheol, and other relevant ministers. The discussion focused on measures related to single-stock leveraged exchange-traded funds, which have been blamed for heightened volatility in the stock market.
