Leicester Resident Betty Sue Buckner Passes Away at 84
Betty Sue Buckner, an 84-year-old resident of Leicester, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on August 8, 2026. Born in Haywood County, North Carolina, to Roney Evans and Lillian Kirkpatrick Evans, Betty spent much of her life in the state she called home. She graduated from Fines Creek High School and worked as a supervisor at Honeywell Microswitch for many years.
Betty was an artist who enjoyed oil painting, music, dancing, and tending to her garden. Her two beloved dogs, Rocky and Jazzi, were always by her side. In addition to her family, she is survived by her sister Ada Messer of Waynesville, North Carolina; her grandsons Bill Harris of Asheville, North Carolina, and Dean Waldroup of Leicester, North Carolina.
A service will be held at a later date for those who wish to pay their respects. In lieu of flowers or other condolences, the family suggests planting a tree in memory of Betty Sue Buckner. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Robert Dee Evans and James Evans, and sisters Eloise Sutton and Eveleen Russell.
