Leicester Woman Betty Sue Evans Buckner Passes Away at 84

Betty Sue Evans Buckner, an 84-year-old artist and former supervisor at Honeywell Microswitch, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on August 8, 2026. Born in Haywood County, North Carolina on October 14, 1941, to Roney and Lillian Kirkpatrick Evans, Betty spent many years dedicated to her work and hobbies.

A member of Panther Creek Baptist Church, Betty was a talented oil painter who loved music, dancing, and gardening. She cherished spending time with her two dogs, Rocky and Jazzi.

Betty is survived by her daughter Sue Waldroup of Leicester, NC; sister Ada Messer of Waynesville, NC; grandsons Bill Harris and Dean Waldroup; and beloved pets Rocky and Jazzi. A service will be held at a later date.
