Levy Leaves AWS for Role at Google Amid Growing Cloud Competition

Dave Levy, former Vice President of Amazon Web Services' (AWS) Worldwide Public Sector, has left the company for a role at Google. According to an AWS spokesperson, Levy's last day was July 31. He had been with AWS since 2017 and led the company's public sector business from 2023 onward.

Levy joined AWS after a 12-year stint as Apple's head of U.S. government sales. His departure comes as AWS is nearing its 15th anniversary of GovCloud, which debuted in 2011 for government customers. The company has since inked major defense contracts with the Central Intelligence Agency and other agencies.

David Appel, who formerly oversaw AWS' national security and defense portfolio, has stepped into Levy's role on an acting basis. Google's business continues to grow, with its cloud computing services gaining market share from competitors AWS and Microsoft. The company's AI technology is also fueling growth in both the private and public sectors.
