Lightning McQueen Revs Up for Formula 1 Debut
The partnership between Disney and Formula 1 has been extended through 2028. This is an expansion of their original collaboration, which launched in 2025 with a focus on bringing together Disney characters and motorsports through various forms of content.
Disney's Mickey Mouse and friends have been prominent in the partnership so far, but Pixar's Cars is now joining the mix. Lightning McQueen will make his Formula 1 debut at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, Italy, this September as part of a special appearance marking the 20th anniversary of the Cars franchise.
The collaboration between Disney and Formula 1 has already resulted in various merchandise, entertainment, and content, including a special Disney Live Entertainment performance at the Fountains of Bellagio. The partnership has also included original WEBTOON content, as well as collaborations with Make-A-Wish for a custom Mickey Mouse-inspired racing helmet that sold for £151,000 (approximately $201,000).
