Lightning Strike Halts Disney Monorail, Guests Get Gift Cards and Priority Access
A lightning strike brought Walt Disney World's monorail system to a halt for over an hour on September 8, 2026.
The incident occurred when Tanya Lee was traveling to EPCOT, and she told Storyful that the train stopped due to a power outage. The driver informed passengers that they were working to get it fixed and would be towed to move the vehicle.
Lee recalled being stuck for 1.5 hours, during which time the driver guided them on how to remove a window in case of an emergency. Despite her initial nervousness due to her fear of heights, she reported that everyone remained in good spirits.
After exiting the monorail, guest relations spoke with passengers and provided them with water bottles, $50 Disney gift cards, and Lightning Lane passes.
