Linux Foundation Launches Tokenomics Foundation to Standardize AI Token Costs
The Linux Foundation has launched the Tokenomics Foundation to standardize how companies measure and manage AI token costs. The foundation, which includes founding supporters such as Accenture, Booking.com, BNY, Flexera, IBM, JPMorgan Chase, KPMG, Oracle, SAP, and ServiceNow, aims to connect token usage to actual business value rather than raw consumption.
J.R. Storment, executive director of the Tokenomics Foundation, emphasized the importance of building visibility into AI token consumption by model, workload, team, and project. He also highlighted that CFOs should partner with CTOs, CIOs, and CAIOs to understand what AI activity is planned and expected to produce.
The foundation has already begun publishing lightweight best practices, including the Big-T Notation framework, and plans to release new frameworks and value metric definitions nearly monthly through the end of the year. An education and certification track will also be developed to educate people on using AI effectively and efficiently.
