Linux Users Get Native Copilot App Thanks to Unofficial Build

The Copilot app for Linux is now available as an unofficial native app, thanks to developer Hayden Barnes.

Barnes built the app using GTK and has shared it on GitHub, allowing users to run Copilot directly from their desktop without relying on Microsoft Edge or a web browser.

The app integrates with the desktop for autostart, system downloads, app launcher execution, and accessing hardware permissions like the microphone. It also supports native OS notifications and desktop accent colors, making it feel more natural on a Linux desktop than running in a standard browser window.

While Microsoft has not released an official Copilot app for Linux, this unofficial version can run quietly in the system tray and trigger native OS notifications, unlike the web version of Copilot. However, it's worth noting that the app is still new and its long-term stability and performance are yet to be determined.
