Lockers Take Over Theme Parks: A Growing Trend
Lockers are becoming increasingly common at major theme park attractions, including Disney and Universal. This trend started in earnest when The Wizarding World of Harry Potter debuted at Universal Orlando in 2010, introducing lockers that allowed guests to store their belongings while waiting in line and ride.
The first instance was on the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride, where guests could place bags, hats, phones, and other loose articles in lockers located at the ride's entrance. After the ride, they would retrieve them from a different locker.
Disney has also adopted this concept, with Avatar Flight of Passage featuring cubbies behind the attraction. The latest additions are TRON Lightcycle / Run and VelociCoaster, both equipped with two-sided lockers that allow guests to store their belongings on one side before boarding and retrieve them from the other after disembarking.
The trend shows no signs of slowing down, with several attractions at Epic Universe featuring lockers. Concept art for Disney World's upcoming Monsters, Inc. 'Door Coaster' also includes a locker area themed to the film. This could be a sign that temporary lockers outside major new attractions are here to stay.
