Lockheed Martin, IBM Launch Quantum Computing Hub in Switzerland
Lockheed Martin and IBM are teaming up to bring Switzerland its first dedicated quantum computing system, known as Quantum System Two, by the end of 2026. The machine will be housed at the Swiss National Supercomputing Center in Lugano and run on IBM's most advanced processor, Quantum Nighthawk.
The project is part of an offset agreement with armasuisse, the Swiss defense procurement agency, and aims to bring quantum research closer to industrial use. Initial areas of focus include chemistry, materials science, optimization, and financial services.
The partnership will also explore applications in navigation and additive manufacturing of metallic alloys, building on Lockheed Martin's work in sensing and manufacturing and IBM's expertise in quantum computing and artificial intelligence.
