Longtime IBM Employee John Christian Jr. Passes Away at 77

John Christian Jr., a 77-year-old longtime resident of Beacon, New York, passed away on July 24 at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh with his son by his side.

Christian was born on January 3, 1949, in Cold Spring to John and Elizabeth (Barger) Christian. He began his career at IBM in Poughkeepsie, where he worked for 37 years before retiring as a manager in 2006.

Apart from his work at IBM, Christian also worked at his father's business, Chris' Auto Body Shop, repairing trucks and at Allen Coal in Cold Spring. He married Donna Mayen on December 6, 1968, at St. Joachim Church in Beacon, and they were together for 54 years until her death in 2023.

Christian was a parishioner of St. Joachim, St. John the Evangelist Church in Beacon and served as an usher. He was also involved with various other organizations in the community, including the Knights of Columbus and the Jessen Park Homeowners Association.
