Lowe's Coalition Aims to Train 1 Million Skilled Trades Professionals by 2035
A coalition of top companies has launched an initiative to address the national shortage of skilled tradespeople. The Building Futures Skilled Trades Coalition, led by Lowe's Foundation, aims to train 1 million skilled trades professionals by 2035.
The coalition includes companies like General Motors, AT&T, Nvidia, and GE Appliances, alongside a network of colleges and trade programs. Its goal is to create effective solutions to reach more potential skilled workers, implement proven methods on a large scale, and rebuild the workforce.
According to Rebecca Henninger, career coach and founder of The Job Girl, the perception problem surrounding vocational education or trades as an alternative path has contributed to the shortage. 'For years, we treated a four-year degree as the default path to a successful career,' she said.
