Shane Lowry's second-round performance at the Amgen Irish Open has put him in contention for back-to-back titles. The Offaly man shot a course-record 62 to take the lead on 11-under par, three strokes ahead of Haotong Li and Jakob Skov Olesen.

Lowry's round was marked by nine birdies, including three consecutive ones from the third to fifth holes. He credited his recent three-week break for giving him a competitive edge.

'I played great, I just kept going,' Lowry said. 'I felt like I was very in control today. It was good fun out there and it's been a while since I had that much fun on the golf course.'

Lowry is aware of the challenge ahead but remains optimistic about his chances. With many players yet to complete their rounds, he won't be counting his chickens just yet.
