Lowry Shatters Records in Dominant Amgen Irish Open Win
Shane Lowry dominated the Amgen Irish Open at Trump International Golf Links and Hotel in Doonbeg, setting a new record for the largest winning margin with an 11-shot victory. The 39-year-old golf pro shot a course-record 62 on Friday and extended his lead to four shots over watching United States President Donald Trump on Saturday.
Lowry made eight more birdies in the final round, including two huge 45-foot efforts at the seventh and 15th holes. He sealed his second Irish Open triumph with a superb birdie putt at the last hole, just 17 years after first winning it as an amateur in 2009.
Lowry's closest challengers, Dane Jacob Skov Olesen and Chilean Joaquin Niemann, failed to make any significant gains on the final day. America's 2018 Masters champion Patrick Reed emerged from the pack to finish tied for second alongside Niemann on 12 under, but Lowry was unstoppable.
