Lowry Soars to Course-Record Lead at Amgen Irish Open
Shane Lowry took control of the Amgen Irish Open after an outstanding course-record 8-under 62 in Round 2. The conditions were calmer and faster than the first round, allowing Lowry to capitalize on his skills in windy links conditions.
Lowry's impressive performance included six birdies on the front nine, with a string of circles on Nos. 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 9 turning in 30. He was on 59 watch after birdies at Nos. 11 and 12 but was stalled by a three-putt bogey at the 13th hole.
Lowry acknowledged his fans, saying 'The crowds were amazing out there today. They support me along the way and it was nice to give them something to shout about.'
Rory McIlroy, the defending champion, expressed frustration with his own game, stating 'I just didn't have it on the greens. I really struggled to read them.'
