Shane Lowry took a significant lead into the final round of the Amgen Irish Open, shooting a five-under-par 65 at Trump International Golf Links and Hotel in Doonbeg. This impressive performance moved him to 16 under overall, with Dane Jacob Skov Olesen in second place.

The home favourite's success on the back nine was particularly notable, as he one-putted every hole during that stretch. Lowry expressed pride in his achievement, stating, 'I thought if I could shoot a good score I could pull myself away a little bit.'

Rory McIlroy's title defence came to an end after he finished the day in a tie for 50th, following a disappointing round of four-over 74. The world number two was on the third hole when Air Force One flew overhead, as Donald Trump arrived at the course for his official visit.

McIlroy acknowledged the unusual circumstances, saying, 'I guess that's not the experience we're used to in a way.' He also attributed his poor performance to two early double bogeys, which put an end to his hopes of repeating his Irish Open triumphs of 2016 and 2025.
