Lowry Stakes Claim with Record-Breaking Round at Amgen Irish Open
Shane Lowry shot an incredible eight-under-par course record on Friday at Trump International Doonbeg in Ireland, taking over three-shot lead heading into the weekend of the Amgen Irish Open. The former Open champion's sparkling second-round 62 has put a lot of pressure on his competitors.
Among those hoping to chase down Lowry are multiple LIV Golf players, including Jon Rahm, Joaquin Niemann, Adrian Meronk, and Tom McKibbin. However, not all LIV golfers had a good day - Tyrrell Hatton, an eight-time winner on the DP World Tour, missed the cut after shooting an eight-over-par 78.
Lowry's closest challenge from his half of the field came from China's Haotong Li and Jacob Denmark's Skov Olesen, who posted rounds of 63 and 64 respectively. Rory McIlroy, meanwhile, sits eleven shots back after a frustrating day with the putter.
