Lowry Stomps Field in Irish Open Rout
Shane Lowry dominated the Amgen Irish Open golf tournament in Doonbeg, Ireland, winning by a record 11 shots over Patrick Reed and Joaquin Niemann. The win was a significant comeback for Lowry, who had struggled with his season on the PGA Tour.
Lowry's week began with a strong second-round score of 62, which he followed up with a 65 in Saturday's third round. On Sunday, he shot a 7-under 63 to finish with a rousing birdie on the 18th hole.
Rory McIlroy, the defending champion and good friend of Lowry's, shot a 74 on Saturday but closed with a Sunday 67. McIlroy expressed his admiration for Lowry's win, saying, 'It would be absolutely incredible.'
