Lufthansa Flight Diverts to Brazzaville Amid Electrical Smoke Concerns

A Lufthansa Boeing 747-400 flight from Johannesburg to Frankfurt declared an emergency and diverted to Brazzaville due to a possible electrical smoke issue. The flight, LH573, departed O.R. Tambo International Airport at 7:00 PM SAST on Thursday evening. Approximately four hours into the long-haul journey, the crew issued the emergency declaration while cruising over the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

According to Flightradar24, the aircraft turned off its planned northbound track towards Western Africa and headed for Maya-Maya Airport in neighboring Republic of the Congo instead. This airport offers suitable runway infrastructure for a fully loaded passenger jumbo jet like the Boeing 747-400.
