Lupin Enters Sugammadex Market as Competition Heats Up

Lupin Limited has joined the growing list of companies offering generic versions of sugammadex injection in the US market. The company's product is a therapeutically equivalent version of Merck's Bridion, which posted estimated sales of $1.6 billion during the 12-month period ending May, according to IQVIA.

Sugammadex is used by anesthesiologists to reverse the effects of certain muscle relaxants given during general anesthesia. The emergence of this blockbuster opportunity has attracted interest from drugmakers worldwide, with several domestic peers also vying for a share in the market.

Lupin will compete with Glenmark and Hyderabad-based Gland Pharma, which entered the market earlier this week with their respective brands.
