Maharashtra Expands Bike-Taxi Regulations to Include Food Delivery Giants

The state of Maharashtra in India is considering expanding its bike-taxi regulations to include food delivery and e-commerce companies such as Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto, Amazon, and Flipkart.

The proposed rules would require these companies to comply with provisions currently associated with bike-taxi operations, including requirements for electric vehicles, driver verification, welfare-fund contributions, and unique license identification numbers.

Many delivery riders who use their personal motorcycles for work may face significant additional costs if they are forced to switch to electric vehicles or obtain commercial licenses, which could make delivery work less financially attractive.
