Maharashtra FDA Cracks Down on Food Safety Across State
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has launched a statewide crackdown on food safety in the state, targeting restaurants, hotels, dhabas, and other establishments. The campaign began with inspections of online delivery platforms, resulting in improvement notices for several outlets.
McDonald's Colaba was among the high-profile establishments facing licence suspension after inspectors found 18 out of 20 deficiencies identified during a previous inspection still unaddressed. The issues included live cockroaches, inadequate pest-control measures, and food waste on the kitchen floor.
The FDA also cited Radio Club for a 47% non-compliance rate, directing it to stop purchasing, selling, and distributing food during the suspension period. Inspectors found live flies and dead cockroaches in the kitchen, as well as peeling paint and plaster near food preparation areas.
