Mahindra Puts Google's Gemini AI at the Wheel
Indian carmaker Mahindra has taken a significant leap in automotive technology by integrating Google's Gemini AI into its BE 6 SPORTEQ series. This move makes Mahindra the first Indian car manufacturer to do so.
The new vehicle, TEQ_Talk, features a conversational voice assistant that can control over 200 functions of the car. These include navigation, entertainment, news, climate and cabin controls, and access to the owner's manual.
What sets Mahindra's AI apart is its ability to understand natural language requests. For instance, if a driver says 'Hey MAIA, it's a little cold in here', the system will adjust the AC or shut the windows accordingly.
The partnership between Mahindra and Google Cloud marks the first automotive AI deployment in an Indian software-defined vehicle. According to Sashi Sreedharan, Managing Director of Google Cloud India, this collaboration enables Mahindra to offer more natural conversational interactions across various aspects of the car.
