Malaysia Hotel Gives New Life to Two Historic Boeing 747s

Two Boeing 747s from different eras of commercial aviation have been repurposed as part of a hotel in Malaysia. One aircraft, MSN 19650, was one of the earliest production Jumbos and flew for Pan Am from 1970 to the early 1990s. After being converted into a freighter, it spent years stored in Johor Bahru before being incorporated into the 1975 Avenue & Hotel project.

The second aircraft, MSN 22067, was delivered to Japan Airlines in 1980 as a Boeing 747SR-146B, specifically designed for short-range flights. It could accommodate 533 passengers and spent 18 years with JAL before leaving the airline in 1998. Both planes have been converted into luxury suites, each containing 9 rooms.

Unlike many early 747s, which were eventually dismantled after retirement, these two aircraft have found a new life as part of the hotel's unique amenities. The project, which began several years ago, has finally opened its doors to guests and offers an unusual opportunity for travelers to experience aviation history up close.
