Man Sets Self Ablaze in Google Office Building in Downtown Manhattan
A bizarre incident unfolded in downtown Manhattan on Friday when a 63-year-old man burst into flames inside a building where Google offices are located. According to police sources, the victim suffered severe burns on his head, upper body, and arms.
Medics rushed the man to a local hospital in stable condition, with no other injuries reported. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. at the Hudson St. building north of Spring St. in Hudson Square.
There is no indication that the fire had any connection to Google, and investigators believe it may have sparked when something inside the man's backpack ignited. Lighter fluid fueled the flames, cops said.
A building worker witnessed the incident from across the street and described seeing the man walking into the lobby wearing a tan sweater, gray pants, and sneakers before bursting into flames.
