Mangione Expected to Plead Guilty in Federal Case Over UnitedHealthcare CEO's Death
Luigi Mangione is set to plead guilty in a federal case related to the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, according to an AP source. The person familiar with the matter cautioned that Mangione could change his mind.
The case has been ongoing since December 4, 2024, when Thompson was shot outside a Manhattan hotel by a masked gunman, who police say used a phrase mimicking how insurers avoid paying claims on ammunition.
Mangione's lawyers and representatives for the Justice Department declined to comment. The hearing is set for Friday in Manhattan federal court, where Mangione could face life imprisonment if convicted of the two counts of stalking.
