Mangione Expected to Plead Guilty in Federal Stalking Case Connected to UnitedHealthcare CEO Murder

Luigi Mangione is expected to plead guilty in his federal stalking case related to the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, according to a report by The New York Times.

Mangione is charged with stalking in connection with Thompson's alleged murder on a midtown Manhattan street in December 2024. He was shot outside the Hilton Hotel on Sixth Avenue while walking to an investors' event for his company's parent, UnitedHealth Group.

If Mangione does plead guilty in the federal case, his attorneys will likely argue that he cannot be prosecuted for murder in the state case due to New York's double jeopardy law. The Manhattan U.S. Attorney's Office declined to comment on whether Mangione is expected to plead guilty.
