Mangione Pleads Guilty to Federal Stalking Charges in UnitedHealthcare CEO Killing
Luigi Mangione, the suspect in the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, has pleaded guilty to two federal stalking charges. The plea was entered on August 14th before U.S. District Judge Margaret Garnett in Manhattan federal court.
Mangione admitted to trailing and shooting Thompson on a Manhattan street in December 2024. The victim, a married father of two who grew up on a farm in Iowa, worked his way up the corporate ladder at UnitedHealthcare, reaching the position of CEO three years before his death.
The U.S. Attorney's office has stated that Mangione faces life in prison for the crime. Former Attorney General Pamela Bondi had previously ordered federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty, but Judge Gregory Carro ruled that this was not possible.
