Mangione Pleads Guilty to Stalking Charges in High-Profile Healthcare CEO Murder Case
Luigi Mangione pleaded guilty to federal stalking charges tied to the death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
Mangione shot and killed Thompson in Manhattan on December 4, 2024, as he walked into a Midtown hotel for an investor conference. Thompson was chief executive of one of the largest health insurers in the US.
Mangione's lawyer seeks dismissal of state murder charges under New York's double jeopardy protections, but federal prosecutors will seek life imprisonment without parole on two counts of stalking. The judge accepted Mangione's guilty plea and set sentencing for December.
