Mangione Set to Plead Guilty in Federal Court for UnitedHealthcare CEO Murder
Luigi Mangione, 28, is set to appear in federal court on Friday (August 14, 2026) for a hearing where he's expected to plead guilty in connection with the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, 50.
Mangione was charged by both federal and state prosecutors with ambushing Thompson outside a New York City hotel on December 4, 2024. The murder led to federal charges that Mangione stalked Thompson to cause his death.
A trial on state murder charges is scheduled to start next month, but it's unclear whether that trial would go forward if Mangione pleads guilty in the federal case.
