Mantua Residents Divided Over Amazon Drone Delivery Plans
Amazon's Prime Air drone delivery service is set to launch in Mantua Township, New Jersey this October. The company plans to expand the service to nearly 500 cities and towns across the country.
The drones will operate within a 7.5-mile radius from a facility on Mantua Grove Road in West Deptford. They will deliver packages weighing five pounds or less within 30 minutes to an hour, flying below 400 feet during daylight hours.
While some residents like Greg Winner see the service as convenient and efficient, others are concerned about noise levels and potential safety risks. Jaime Alexander worries that drones could miss their targets, citing a Texas incident where a package landed in a backyard pool.
A petition has been created seeking transparency and a public hearing on the matter. The mayor of Mantua Township has stated that he has no authority over Amazon's decision to launch the service.
