MapQuest Refuses to Bow to Trump's Renaming Frenzy
When US President Donald Trump renamed Lake Ontario to 'Lake America' over an ongoing trade war with Canada, tech giants Google and Apple quickly followed suit. However, one mapping service refused to change its name: MapQuest.
MapQuest's defiance has paid off, with the app becoming the number one freely downloadable app in the App Store after it refused to rename Lake Ontario and the Gulf of Mexico. The company even allowed users to apply their own silly names to the lake on their maps.
Despite its meteoric rise, MapQuest is still missing a crucial feature: transit directions. Unlike Google Maps and Apple Maps, which offer rich and detailed transit options, MapQuest only shows walking, biking, and driving directions.
