Marvell Shares Surge on Google Chip Talks
Marvell Technology Inc.'s shares surged nearly 10% in the overnight session after reports of talks between the company and Google to develop custom chips for AI model operations.
The discussions, according to a report by The Information, aim to design two chips: one focusing on memory and another next-generation tensor processing unit (TPU) tailored specifically for AI inference workloads.
While Google has previously purchased off-the-shelf data center chips from Marvell, the current talks aim to create semiconductors exclusively for Google's needs, highlighting the growing need for inference chips in real-world AI applications.
