Marvell Technology Teams Up with Google on Custom AI Chips
Marvell Technology and Google have formed a partnership to develop custom AI chips, further validating the advantages of custom silicon in the current environment. According to Wedbush Securities, this collaboration is not entirely unexpected, but it does indicate that companies with custom chip design capabilities are well-positioned.
The expanded cooperation between Marvell Technology and Google covers a range of custom chip projects related to the TPU ecosystem, including AI inference accelerators, storage controllers, network interface controllers, memory interface controllers, and near-memory computing. This marks Marvell's transition from a peripheral role to a core position within Google's AI infrastructure.
As part of the agreement, Marvell issued a warrant to Google granting it the right to purchase up to 58.97 million shares at an exercise price of $206.58 per share. Analysts at Morningstar estimate that if all vesting tranches are triggered, Marvell could secure custom chip orders from Google worth $120 billion.
Wedbush Securities analyst Matt Bryson also commented on potential future TPU collaboration projects between AMD and Google, noting that such cooperation could be of 'significant importance.'
