Mastercard Eyes Growth with Diversified Strategy
Mastercard's new Chief Financial Officer Ling Hai outlined the company's strategy at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference in September 2026. The focus is on growth, diversification, and disciplined capital use.
The company has seen resilient consumer and business spending, despite some pressure from conflict in the Middle East and shifting travel patterns. Services now account for about 40% of net revenue, up from a small share 17 years ago. This diversified model helps cushion the business when one region or route weakens.
Hai emphasized that top-line growth is Mastercard's main capital priority, supported by mergers and acquisitions and a strong balance sheet. The company sees opportunities in services like cybersecurity, stablecoins, and domestic payment systems, alongside its core payments network.
