Mastercard Gains Edge Over Visa in Payment Processing
Visa and Mastercard are two of the largest payment processing companies in the world, with unmatched scale and widespread acceptance.
Their latest financial results for the quarter ending June 30 show both companies performing strongly, with Visa reporting a 14% increase in net revenue to $11.6 billion and Mastercard's net revenue rising 14% year over year to $9.3 billion.
Both companies benefit from high volume growth, with Visa's total payments volume increasing by 10% and Mastercard's cross-border volume up 12%. They also generate significant revenue from value-added services such as advisory services, security solutions, and market insights, with Visa's revenue in this area surging 36%.
However, their profitability trends differ. Visa's net income margin declined to 48.4%, while Mastercard's expanded to 47.3%, indicating better cost discipline at the latter company.
