Maya Expands Google Pay Rollout, Completes Transition to Recycled Plastic Cards
Maya's Visa wallet cards are now available for linking on Google Pay and Google Wallet, allowing users to make cashless payments using near-field communication-enabled Android devices. This expansion follows Maya's earlier rollout of Google Wallet and Google Pay in November 2025, when it became one of the first issuers in the Philippines to launch the payment technology.
According to Visa, over 71% of consumers in Asia-Pacific prefer to use mobile or smart devices for in-store or online payments, with research showing that 97% of travelers in the region want to use credit, debit, or prepaid cards when traveling. Only 17% intend to bring cash.
Visa's tokenization technology enables Google Pay transactions by replacing actual card numbers with unique digital tokens, reducing fraud and preventing cardholders' real account information from being shared with merchants or stored in devices.
Maya has also completed its transition to 100% recycled plastic for all newly produced wallet cards, ahead of its year-end target. This move makes more responsible materials the standard across its wallet card portfolio. To mark this milestone, Maya is introducing a special-edition Maya Bukad Card, a nature-inspired Visa card created in collaboration with Filipino visual artist and illustrator Raxenne Maniquiz.
