McDonald's Earnings Hold Steady Amid Value Push
McDonald's (MCD) shares are inching higher on Tuesday after the fast-food giant delivered steady Q2 performance, supported by an aggressive value push and accelerating digital adoption.
The company recorded a better-than-expected $3.38 per share of earnings (EPS), on a 4% year-over-year increase in revenue to $7.1 billion, which nonetheless missed the consensus.
Industry expert Mitch Roschelle said MCD's sales miss suggests 'the lower-income consumer is tapped out', adding that household strain under lingering inflation has led to a decline in traffic to domestic restaurants in its fiscal Q2.
However, McDonald's continues to focus on value through structured meal deals and targeted app discounts, which have helped it retain price-sensitive diners so far. The firm's heavy reliance on promotions and discounts creates margin pressure that requires traffic growth to offset, Roschelle noted.
