McDonald's Enters Energy Drink Market with Red Bull Dragonberry Energizer
McDonald's is expanding its beverage lineup by adding Red Bull to its menus nationwide on August 17. This marks the chain's entry into the energy drink category and offers a McDonald's-exclusive spin on the popular beverage. The new Red Bull Dragonberry Energizer combines Red Bull with tangy blue raspberry syrup and freeze-dried dragon fruit, while customers can also opt for Zero Sugar Red Bull.
The Red Bull Dragonberry Energizer is part of McDonald's growing lineup of specialty sodas, which includes crafted drinks like the Vanilla Swirl. This new drink combines Coke, Diet Coke, or Coke Zero with vanilla flavor and a topping of cold foam. The chain is also adding vanilla syrup to its McCafé menu on August 17.
Alyssa Buetikofer, McDonald's chief marketing and customer experience officer, says that the chain has seen growing enthusiasm for its drinks as customers look for more variety and options to fit every occasion. With strong response internationally, the Red Bull Dragonberry Energizer was a natural next step for the US market.
The addition of Red Bull and vanilla syrup is part of McDonald's strategy to cater to changing consumer preferences, particularly among Gen Z consumers who are seeking refreshing pick-me-ups across the board. This trend is reflected in the popularity of energy drinks and specialty beverages, with brands like Dunkin' and Starbucks expanding their non-coffee offerings.
