McDonald's Lewisham Gets Green Light for Midnight Opening
McDonald's on Old Bromley Road in Lewisham has secured permission to extend its opening hours from midnight to 1am every day. The decision was made by Lewisham Council's Planning Committee on August 12, with the new timings set to come into effect soon.
The fast-food giant had submitted a Section 73 application to vary its existing planning permission, which dates back to 2014. At that time, McDonald's was allowed to operate from 6am to midnight every day of the week.
Franchise Supervisor Murat Ocalan explained that extending opening hours by one hour will help meet customer demands and provide additional employment opportunities for staff. He also assured locals that certain rules will be in place to minimize disruption, including closing the restaurant itself and customer car park from midnight to 1am, except for a designated area for delivery drivers and the drive-thru.
During the public consultation, 10 objections were raised by local residents, who cited concerns about noise nuisance and litter. However, a planning officer noted that there was no record of any issues or complaints related to these matters coming from the site.
