McDonald's Lockdown Lessons: Diversification Pays
When the COVID-19 lockdown was announced in early 2020, businesses across the country were forced to confront a crisis they had not anticipated. McDonald's, however, managed to survive and adapt by diversifying its operations and partnering with delivery services.
The fast-food chain partnered with companies like Uber Eats, DoorDash, and Glovo to deliver food to customers during the lockdown period. This move allowed McDonald's to continue generating revenue despite the restrictions on in-person gatherings.
According to Julie Nyaga, founder of Ashley's Events, which was severely impacted by the lockdown, diversification is key to surviving a crisis. She also ventured into the agricultural produce business, selling fresh garden horticultural products, after her event planning business was affected by the pandemic.
