McDonald's Long-Term Strategy Shines Through Amid Soft Sales
McDonald's stock has seen some ups and downs this year, but an analyst says investors are focused on the company's long-term strategy. According to KeyBanc analyst Christopher Carril, McDonald's second-quarter results were largely in line with expectations.
Carril notes that US sales were soft in the second quarter, despite a big marketing push, and that comparable sales were in line with Street estimates but are showing signs of decline in July. The company is focusing on execution and marketing going forward, after those areas were weaknesses in the quarter.
The new McValue platform and World Cup promotions did not perform as well as initially expected, but McDonald's is working to improve execution around value. Carril says that investor attention could turn towards the company's long-term strategy ahead of a September Investor Day.
