McDonald's Nears Dividend King Status With Next Hike Looming
McDonald's is closing in on a milestone that would place it among the elite group of companies known as Dividend Kings. The fast-food giant has increased its dividend for 49 consecutive years and needs just one more annual increase to join this exclusive club.
The company began paying dividends in 1976 and has steadily raised its payout over the decades. Its most recent increase, announced in October 2025, lifted the quarterly dividend by 5% to $1.86 per share, or $7.44 annually.
McDonald's is attractive to long-term income investors due to its consistency of increasing dividends. The company's global franchise-heavy business model allows it to generate substantial revenue from franchise-related activities while requiring less capital than a business that directly owns and operates most of its restaurants.
