McDonald's Plans for Welwyn Garden City Meet Resistance from Residents
A new McDonald's restaurant is planned for Welwyn Garden City, but residents have raised concerns about litter, noise, and anti-social behaviour.
The fast food giant has submitted a planning application to transform the former Stanborough pub into a restaurant, which has been closed since July 2024.
Residents worry that the new McDonald's will increase litter in surrounding streets and green spaces, cause additional traffic and congestion, and lead to noise from customers, vehicles, and deliveries at early hours and late nights.
'We are all familiar with the kind of behaviour associated with the McDonald's in the town centre already,' said one resident. 'For families, elderly residents, and those living closest to the site, these issues could significantly affect their peace, safety, and enjoyment of their homes.'
The planning application details changes to the building, including new double doors on the north-east elevation, shopfront glazing, and HVAC equipment on the roof.
