McDonald's Q2 Earnings Outpace Expectations Despite U.S. Traffic Challenges
McDonald's stock held steady following its Q2 2026 earnings report. Adjusted earnings per share reached $3.38, a 6 percent year-over-year increase that exceeded consensus expectations of $3.32. The company's profitability is advancing faster than volume in the current environment.
The predominantly franchised model continues to drive the bulk of operating profitability, with franchised restaurant margin dollars climbing 4.3 percent in Q2 2026 to $3.71 billion. However, company-operated restaurant margins grew a more modest 1.8 percent overall in Q2 2026, and in the U.S. segment those margins fell 6 percent due to inflationary cost pressure.
U.S. comparable sales in Q2 2026 increased 0.8 percent as positive average check growth supported the top line, but lower guest counts limited the overall result. In contrast, global comparable sales rose 1.3 percent in Q2 2026, and system-wide sales increased 4 percent in constant currency on new unit openings.
