McDonald's Second Quarter Earnings Soar Amid Execution Woes in US Market
McDonald's reported strong earnings in its second quarter, but faced challenges in the US market due to inconsistent execution and marketing programs that didn't meet expectations.
The company's same-store sales in the US edged up 0.8%, a slowdown from last year's 2.5% increase when it had success with a Minecraft-themed meal promotion.
CEO Chris Kempczinski attributed the poor performance to execution issues, stating 'We don't have a strategy problem... We simply didn’t execute at the level we needed to in the second quarter.'
McDonald's is also dealing with American consumers keeping a close eye on their wallets due to high gas prices and consumer anxiety over the US conflict with Iran.
The company has tried to lure cost-conscious customers through value meals and specials, including its new simplified McValue menu featuring 10 items for $3 or less.
