McIlroy and Lowry Land Blockbuster Groupings in Amgen Irish Open
Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry have been given strong groupings in the Amgen Irish Open at Trump International Doonbeg. The World No2 will tee off with Robert MacIntyre and Brooks Koepka, while Lowry is set to play alongside Jon Rahm and Patrick Reed.
The Northern Irishman is targeting a third Irish Open triumph after his victory last year at the K Club. McIlroy's pal, Shane Lowry, won the Irish Open as an amateur in 2009 and will be looking for another strong performance.
There are plenty more eye-catching groups in one of the strongest Irish Open fields assembled in recent years. Seamus Power will play alongside Sepp Straka and Joaquin Niemann at 9:30am on Thursday, while Padraig Harrington begins a remarkable 31st consecutive Irish Open appearance.
The Amgen Irish Open has a prize fund of $6 million, with the winner set to collect $1.02 million. The event is also part of the European qualification campaign for next year's Ryder Cup at Adare Manor.
