McLeod Hosts Open House to Discuss North Tukwila Transit Options
Tukwila Mayor Thomas McLeod is hosting an open house on regional transit in north Tukwila, including updates on the Boeing Access Road light rail station and other possible transit options. The event will take place on Wednesday, September 30, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Museum of Flight.
The Boeing Access Road station has been a key transit priority for Tukwila and South King County for over three decades, according to McLeod. Sound Transit, the City of Tukwila, and community partners are expected to participate in the open house.
In April 2023, the Sound Transit Board adopted Resolution No. R2026-11 to address affordability challenges facing voter-approved Sound Transit 3 projects. The resolution included a commitment to move forward with full design of the Boeing Access Road station and allocated $10 million for alternative transit options in north Tukwila.
However, McLeod noted that the resolution does not currently provide a path to construction for the station. He added that an amendment was passed directing Sound Transit to identify cost savings and alternative financing and delivery options for the station by February 2027.
