MCWD Partners with Cisco to Cut Water Losses
The Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) is teaming up with Cisco to modernize its water infrastructure and reduce losses due to aging pipes and leaks. Metro Cebu currently loses about 32% of its treated water supply, which is a significant problem considering the region's water stress.
The partnership aims to cut down non-revenue water (NRW) by 15% across MCWD's distribution network. To achieve this, Cisco will deploy its networking and industrial edge technologies to monitor water flow and pressure in real-time using smart sensors.
The system will feed data into a centralized platform, giving MCWD operations teams an end-to-end view of the distribution network. This allows them to detect anomalies such as sudden pressure drops and unusual flow patterns before they become costly problems.
Cisco's technology will also incorporate industrial-grade cybersecurity to restrict access to authorized personnel and devices. The system can eventually support artificial intelligence-driven analytics, enabling MCWD to anticipate potential failures and operational disruptions.
