Memory Prices to Stay High for Years: Top Chip Analyst Warns
A top chip analyst has warned that memory prices will remain high for years to come, affecting even tech giants like Apple. Paul Meeks, head of technology research at Freedom Capital Markets, stated on CNBC's Squawk Box that he doesn't expect relief in the memory market 'for years.'
Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU), Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), and NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) are among the companies affected by the memory price surge. Micron sells DRAM and NAND to other manufacturers, while Apple is a major buyer of these components.
Meeks noted that even a strong product cycle may not rescue the supplier chain from the effects of the memory pricing spike. He attributed this to the structural nature of the problem, which he believes will persist beyond calendar 2027.
The analyst also highlighted the tight supply conditions in the memory market, citing Sanjay Mehrotra's statement that 'DRAM and NAND industry demand continues to significantly exceed industry supply.'
